Songs for a Summer Afternoon - Vocal Recital Sunday, August 30th
An Afternoon of Classical Favourites!
I am trained as a classical singer. My passion wasn't for opera per se, but for song. Between 1998 and 2010, I studied art song in Canada, the US, Austria and France. I love how performing a song recital encourages one to be versatile in changing hats, and to walk in many different people's shoes - oftentimes all in the same set of songs!
Since the spring of 2014, I have chosen a different way in which to indulge my interest in how people tick: by heading back to university. I'm committed to further exploring the pathways between music and medicine and have used my experiences this past year to embark on a transition into the medical field.
This interest comes with a price tag attached and with this event I find myself turning the tables: fundraising for myself! On a pragmatic level, this concert is a way to raise funds to cover various expenses such college tuition, examination and application fees. On an interpersonal level, it is a way to give back to all those who have helped me along the way.
I have selected some of my favourite art songs to share with you all: standards from the traditional canon; folk songs in homage to my Newfoundland roots; a few fun cabaret ditties, plus a special treat for those in the medical field!
